If you have a hobby of diving or snorkeling, you must be familiar with the name Tulamben. Tulamben is a small village located on the northeastern tip of the island of Bali. It is said that the word Tulamben comes from the word Batu Lampih which means a lot of scattered stones in the local Balinese language. This is related to the eruption of Mount Agung which is the highest mountain in Bali, erupted violently in 1963 where some of the eruption material in the form of rock, coral, sand, ash, and others spilled onto the northern coast of Mount Agung which is now known as Tulamben. Administratively, Tulamben Village belongs to the Kubu District, Karangasem Regency, Bali. Most of the people work as fishermen, dry field farmers, construction workers, and civil servants. Since Tulamben develops as a marine tourism object, some residents work in the tourism sector. Tourism facilities such as hotels, villas, and guest houses began to be built as well as supporting facilities such as cafes, restaurants, motorbike rental places, and water sports counters that offer diving, snorkeling and fishing tours.
What's interesting about Tulamben?
At first glance, Tulamben doesn't seem interesting to visit. If you visit Tulamben, don't be surprised, this beach which has black sand and rocks is not as busy as the white sandy beaches in southern Bali such as Sanur, Nusa Dua, Melasti, Kuta, Jimbaran, and others. Tourists who visit Tulamben are mostly those who have a hobby of marine tourism such as snorkeling and diving because Tulamben is one of the best diving spots in the world. The rating was given by tourists who have been diving and snorkeling here. The natural underwater Tulamben sea is said to be very beautiful with various types of colorful tropical marine fish. There is one interesting diving spot, namely the wreck of the American warship, the USAT Liberty ship. This American army transport ship (US Army Transporter) sank during World War II in 1943 when it was hit by a torpedo by a Japanese submarine. This shipwreck is overgrown with coral reefs and is a prima donna for diving in Tulamben.
